Will my stone worktops stain?

The reality: engineered stone (quartz) is non-porous and highly resistant to stains. Natural stones (granite, marble) are porous and require an impregnating sealer. Once sealed (which we do at installation), granite and marble are very stain-resistant. Most "stains" wipe away immediately. Preventing stains is mostly about prompt cleanup — wipe spills right away.

Can I put hot pans directly on stone worktops?

Granite and porcelain are heat resistant, but we still recommend a trivet or hot pad for very hot pans. Quartz: always use trivets. Quartz contains resin binders and can scorch or discolour if exposed to extreme heat (usually above 150°C).

Stone is highly durable, but severe direct impacts on sharp edges can cause chips — for example, dropping a heavy cast-iron pan directly on the corner of a sink cutout. You can minimise this risk by: Selecting a bevelled or rounded edge profile (softens corners) Careful handling (stone is heavy, treat it well) Using trivets and coasters Minor chips can be polished or filled professionally. Large cracks typically require section replacement.

Never: harsh chemicals, abrasive scrubbers, or hot pans directly on the surface (especially quartz).
